Southern California’s defeat of UCLA moved the Trojans closer to the College Football Playoff in this week’s bowl projections. Clemson still leads.

There was no change at the top of the College Football Playoff for the first time this season. Georgia remains No. 1 followed by Ohio State, Michigan.

Oregon loses its place in the College Football Playoff field in this week’s bowl projections, opening the door for Clemson to make the field.

There was no mystery at the top of the second College Football Playoff rankings with Georgia holding the top spot. The big news was at No. 4.

In a matchup of the top-ranked offense and an elite defense, it was No. 1 Georgia that emerged with a dominating victory against No. 3 Tennessee.

Georgia and Tennessee face a major showdown Saturday. The loser still is in great shape to finish in the College Football Playoff bowl projections.

This week’s bowl projections look at how a big win against UCLA has put Oregon in position to reach the College Football Playoff if it keeps winning.

It’s only the second weekend in October, but 10 teams in college football can secure bowl eligibility this weekend and bonuses for their coaches.
